Some observations:

1) The people at "Stuff We Like" enjoy breaking down the fourth wall, or whatever you call it when you're watching The Monkees, or Moonlighting, or Freakazoid!

2) This John P. McCann fellow is really interested in how this DVD is selling. Hm. Maybe he is a shareholder at Warner Brothers, or something like that. Somehow he reminds me of Douglas Douglas, but I can't quite figure out why . . .

I'll bet this Ace post is a lot funnier on the East Coast than it is out here.

Frankly, we consider ourselves lucky if we can ever scrape together 8% of our peak income: most years it's more like 3%.

Those folks in New Jersey are just a laugh riot. And us? We're drowning in the glamour of it all.

(Sorry, Ace: I got cramps, and as usual they're messing with my mind. Codeine doesn't touch 'em any more; anyone have any vicodin?)

But the Freakazoid! DVD is slipping in the Amazon rankings. It was in the twenties, and it was number two among family animation DVDs. But they are losing ground.

I'd hate to have to shutter the blog because Freakazoid! didn't sell enough DVDs of the first season.

And, of course, I'm not promising that I'll publish a "deep cleavage" shot of myself if sales perk up, but . . . I most certainly won't if they don't.

Remember: every DVD you buy from the first season of Freakazoid! increases the odds that they'll release the second season, despite its containing—the way I got the story, and I might have it wrong— Copyrighted Music That Could Well Cost Money.

1 Hmm...thinking deep thoughts and shallow thoughts... Shallow thought: Do they ship to Malaysia? Deep Thoat: Would that be deep 'upper' cleavage, or deep 'lower' cleavage? X-Box provides some fun coverage of the Freakazoid! and Tiny Toons panel at Comic-Con 2008, which should help to promote the upcoming release of the Freak! and Tiny Toons DVDs. (Both first season DVDs come out on July 29th, but you knew that—right?)

See if you can recognize the voices of the individual writers/producers commenting on thisFreakazoid!* episode, recently uploaded to YouTube by Warner Brothers to promote the new first-season DVD:

To do that, I think one has to:

1) be paying careful attention;

2) be hella-hardcore as a fan; or

3) be me.

The best thing about Cave Guy was, without doubt, his voice. And the fact that he had a subscription to The New Yorker. One must admit that this is rare in a super-villain.

The Batman allusion, is, of course, quite topical at this moment.

* It's my understanding that Spielberg has been bought out, and we can now refer to the series as Freakazoid!, rather than by the rather long, ponderous original title, Steven Spielberg Presents Freakazoid!

I'm sure that if I am incorrect I will be sued regarding this oversight: one does not mess with The Steven.

Naturally, I'm longing to remove the exclamation point from the name of the series, since it screws up my syntax. But it's a short hop from mandating that in the style sheet of one's blog, to mandating a consistent use of the definite article in the titles of periodicals.

Next thing you know, your style dictates that you treat The New York Times the same as the Los Angeles Times, even though the latter does not have a "the" in its name.

The following week, Western Civilization ends, due to a lack of rigor in the style sheet for one's blog, and one is left in a dystopian landscape out of the beginning of The Terminator. "No more big wheels; fleas the size of rats suck on rats the size of cats, and ten thousand peopleoids split into small tribes."

My understanding is that this is bad.

All for lack of a bit of stylistic consistency.

The Freakazoid! first-season DVD is available for pre-order on Amazon.com; release date will be July 29th.

Also, John P. McCann, Jean MacCurdy, and Paul Rugg will be appearing at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego (July 24-27).

I would go, but I'm afraid that at some point someone will hand me an English-Klingon dictionary, and I will be utterly dismayed to see it. (Actually, I don't know if that episode wherein Cave Guy chases Freakazoid to Comic-Con actually aired; it might have just been put together for a panel at Comic-Con itself. The denizens of CC were delighted to see themselves—and their penchant for costumes—thoroughly skewered.)

What can you say about a writing team that is asked to put more "toyetic" elements into its plots, and ends up writing about the term toyetic itself? (I might have that story wrong, but that's the way I got that one.)
