I thought it was a typo, and they were going to John 3:16. At least, until I looked at the vid. As with all Shivaree songs, mere listening lends itself to one interpretation, and actual watching brings out a second (generally darker) impression.
For instance, go back a second time and look at the "Goodnight Moon" video. It isn't just a "woman in jepeordy" story. At least, the jeopardy is moral and emotional, rather than physical.
That doesn't come out as clearly when one simply listens to the lyrics.
