So.

Tori Amos, or Kate Bush?

I'm, um, agnostic.

Christophe

. . . has a new blog. Oddly enough, it mentions the sex industry.

Christophe has always been an extraordinary prose stylist. And, yes: that has greatly enhanced Blowfish's descriptions of sex toys over the years. He is a writer's son, and a good writer hiimself. It shows.

He is part of the Malibu Mafia, too. In high school I used to imagine him, Sean Penn, Margaret Baumgartner, Sandra Tsing Loh, Karen Jerome, Joel Kopitz, and Audrey McNulty having wonderful, erudite conversations on board the yellow buses that took them from Samohi and our dirty little beach town up the coast to the Land of Dreams.

Though I'm sure it never happened quite like that in real life. What a shame.

True or False

The entire world of graphic arts would be very different without the vogue LSD enjoyed in the 60s/70s/80s.

Political Prisoners in the United States.

I know we have 'em. How many are there?

Are there any who are behind bars for reasons other than the "War on Drugs"? Not many, I imagine.

Just askin' the question.

Harrell on Drugs.

Not that I want to add to Jeff's headaches these days. But it appears that he might be softening his stance on drugs ever-so-slightly. At least, with respect to Mary Jane.

I think a lot of people smoke weed regularly when they're in high school or college, and then stop later on because it's too much of a bother and they're busy. And I still think alchohol is more dangerous than weed, because of the collateral damage it causes: stoned people do not mow people down when they drive.

In no way do I see the coercive effect of the State as the correct instrument for solving the problem of drug addiction.

And I honestly think people can get addicted to damn near anything: shopping, eating, keeping messy files (I have friends who do this), gambling, surfing the internet, watching television, taking warm baths.

I also had a friend who used heroin on a semi-regular basis for a while. Then he stopped. Just like that—no willpower involved; no support group. No nothing.

So I am, and remain, a libertarian on this issue. Legalize hard drugs so we can regulate 'em, tax 'em, and re-funnel enforcement money into treatment programs. And sell Prozac, Wellbutrin, and Ambien over the counter, please. Pretty please.

Don't make me ruin my middle-aged skin with too many hot baths.

So I Ran Out of Prozac.

And I've been too depressed to get more.

Send me some SSRIs, stat.

I wonder if the PayPal button will work for pharmaceuticals. It should, you know; I would think drugs would be a perfectly acceptable way to tip a blogger. A good entry would go for some bud. A really funny one would get me a week's worth of Prozac. Something truly provocative would net me a few Ambien 10s, and if I hit it out of the park, you PayPal me a few Tylenol 3s to help me batten down the hatches next time I have a bad period. Next person to choose me as his/her blog-crush can buy me a little Tanqueray. Tanqueray 10 if you've convinced yourself you're in love with me.

This is a workable system.

The World Ended Today

Congratulations, Elton.

Now everyone's going to be upset at me. But when I think of all the stupid energy that poor man put into pretending to be straight in the 70s, it really frosts me. Virginia Woolf: "Opinions that one now pastes in a book labelled cock–a–doodledum and keeps for reading to select audiences on summer nights once drew tears, I can assure you."

My nieces and nephews don't remember this, but there was a time when it was assumed that a man had to be straight to produce world-class rock 'n' roll. It all seems so far away, but I remember it. All the "debate" about Elton, and about Freddie Mercury too, for that matter.

What a waste.

Best wishes, Buddy. I remember when rock was young . . .

Question: Is This Offensive?

For those who can tolerate a little porn, check out this post. Then read Bullwinkle's comment below it.

Are the pictures offensive? Is the remark?

In a heterosexual context, how does your relationship with the opposite sex inform your opinion?

Drugs I Don't Understand

2. Weed.

Okay, so I could smoke some dope (or whatever the kids are calling it nowadays) and then go snack on some high-carb food.

Or I could jump directly to the snacking, save some money, and be able to get a little reading in before I sleep.

Why do I need a middle man?
