Okay. Traffic is Leveling Off.
Let's review the rules:
On other sites, they provide content. If you like it, you come back.
Here, I wait until my traffic stats come in. If you've been good readers and have stopped by frequently enough, I give you something to read.
It's the "tough love" approach to blogging, and I feel that it's good for you.

Sounds sensible.
That's how the Soviets ran their stores. If they were good customers and stopped by often enough, they gave them something to buy. Assuming they had anything, of course.

Market Research
If I print up a book of my poems, produced from when I was 15 to around 25, and sold it here, would you buy it?
It'll be a small volume of angry mutterings about the dark side of human sexuality, along with meditations on the importance of fast cars and loud rock music. Some rhyme and many do not.
It's terribly deep.
I think I'd like $12-$15 a volume for it.
Basically, I'm looking to make a quick buck, here. And who can blame me?

One of the basics of marketing is the free sample - get them to want more by giving them a taste.

Yes. I've considered that, but of course I cannot publish them all online, or there would be no point in anyone buying the book.
So stay tuned. I'll start blogging a few of 'em.

How deep? We are pretty shallow, you know. We don't want to drown, either. And would there be porn? I mean "art"? I've heard that sells a lot of things these days. Research proves research works!
How angry? Mo Do angry? The gentler sex doesn't like to mix sexuality with anger like that!

Make it $3.00 and PDF. If it sells big you might get a print publisher to take it on.
And don't worry about free on-line publication of the whole magilla, that only whets the appetite for a real book.

Sell it by the word. Make them real good words, and raise the price. Maybe 10 cents each. Hemingway was paid more than any writer in history, $5,000 for a 1,000 word article by Esquire. That's $5 a word, but, of course, he had a following at the time that extended beyond Key West.

Back in Black.
Wow. Three DDoS attacks over the weekend. Fortunately, our hero
Pixy fixed 'em with his Australian kung fu.
With guys like Ace in Munuvia, we're going to have problems. But the jihadis just can't compete, because 1) Westerners can get help from the wimmin in solving problems, and 2) Christian, Jewish, and normal Muslim men get laid more than Islamonutters. So they can concentrate better. Even setting aside our chick brain trust, we'd come out ahead.

Sure. Spoil My Day in the Sun Snow.
Hm. I'm starting to think I need to get some more RAM into this machine, ASAP. I wrote a brilliant post—okay: it was stuffy, quasi-literary, and rather dull—over at
The American Mind, and Sean's MT wouldn't take it.
I mean, my overwrought prose is safe in a Word file, but I need to fix this problem. The difficulty is definitely here, rather than at Sean's website, because I'm experiencing similar incidents with other interactive sites, and my relationship with my e-mail program has turned downright quarrelsome. (It has always reserved the right to decide that my password is somehow wrong, but it's doing this more and more often. In fact, I think it's determined to make me its punk.)
The computer is just . . . well, it's pale, and ill, a shadow of its former self. I know you guys try to discourage me from putting medications into it through the CD-Rom drive, but I thought a few iron pills might pep it up a bit. Or I could just stick some raisins in there . . .

Survey: Readers of Political Blogs
Blogads is once more sponsoring several surveys of niches within the blogosphere, and would like your responses to a few questions if you regard yourself as a reader of "political blogs."
I guess my being chosen to send readers over indicates that I'm considered a political weblog, rather than "politics + Joy's angst + household hints." That's all to the good.
Should you decide to take the survey have at it, and make sure to use "Little Miss Attila" as your answer to question #23.
Remember: more responses means sharper marketing of blogads. This translates into Actual Revenue for your favorite sites, and more Bitchin' Free Content you can read on company time. Everyone goes away happy.

. . . will mark my third anniversary as a blogger. Since I never got around to moving my archives over from the
old site, I'll have to celebrate by seeing to that next month.
I'm also thinking of re-running some of my old posts from the run-up to our invasion of Iraq. This is my first entry ever:
I wish people would do their homework. I wish half of those who think they oppose our impending invasion of Iraq would do basic things--like researching international law (if not "just war" theory), Saddam's atrocities, and the opinions of the Iraqis themselves, who simply want to be free. The protesters here in the U.S. rail against a government that is trying to make it possible for Iraqis to protest *their* government. As opposed to the current situation, in which Iraqis of any stripe can be imprisoned and tortured for breathing a critical word.
All the "arguments" I hear against the war so far--with the possible exception of one--have been patent nonsense. None have been based in fact. Unless you count the made-up "fact" that invading Iraq will somehow line the pockets of those in the administration who have ties to the Evil Oil Companies. The only pockets likely to get lined are those of the French and Russian companies who have contracts with Iraq and are scared that a regime change will be bad for business. (And then there are the French and Russian suppliers of material--and the French outright building Saddam a nuclear reactor.)
It's crazy. Children all over California today left their classes to demonstrate for torture. And they don't even know it. That's the amazing thing.

Blog Business
1) Someone should pick up my left-hand premium slot ("Little Miss Attila Gold"). This particular position has been very successful in the past for clients such as Americans for Rice and Conservative Thinking.
2) I'm making arrangements for my trip to DC, so please "renew" your "subscription" by hitting my tip jar (the Paypal button at left). Your cash donations will help to pay for:
• a red-eye flight to the East Coast;
• peanut butter, jelly and bread, hidden away in my hotel room to keep me from wasting away in the nation's foremost Fat Metropolis;
• one overpriced gin and tonic at the hotel (I'm trying to make my budget realistic).
If you're conservative, I'm going to D.C. to help the cause. If you're a liberal, I'm going to "fight from the inside." Either way, the world will be a better place with me covering CPAC. Gas prices will be lower, birds will sing, and your spouse will be available for nearly nonstop sex.
Thanks.

I've been pondering why I visit this site (not that you asked except in the initial surver), and by extension why I visit the other sites in my favorites list.
Some blogs I like because of their free ranging nature and links to things I don't have the time to search out on my own (Instapundit, for example).
Other blogs I like because they post thoughtful commentary and provide new perspective (Power Line, Belmont Club).
Some, like yours, I visit because I enjoy the blogger's "voice." Writing style, attitudes, opinions, whatever. And those blogs invariably also have another feature, which is the interplay in the comments, especially when the blogger takes part. In the early days of Slate's "The Fray" I was a frequent participant. I gave up around the 2000 election, when some commentors began wishing for Dick Cheney to have a fatal heart attack. In my proud history as a Bill Clinton Despiser (VRWC membership number in the low three digits) I never heard anyone wish for the things to happen to Clinton and his cohorts that are routine amongst the fever swamp of the left today.
So the give and take of civil debate is good, as is the friendly banter among people who have never been face to face.
But the Sangria thing, and the virginity bit? Was that you? Sorry, I was really wasted that day. I meant to call, but your husband and I went to Cabo the next morning.

Oh, Yes.
Darleen's on duty, I see. Cool.
I'll be leaving tomorrow morning at an obscenely early hour and flying to Hawaii to accompany my husband to a charity fundraising event for a few days.
If anyone has on-the-ground information about the weather conditions in Honolulu, let me know. Otherwise, I'm just going to pretend that I'm going to the East Coast in the summertime (that exotic humidity thing), but I'm taking a jacket in case the wind off the sea chills my thin California blood.
I might check in one more time before we head out, but I'm going to try not to make this another "pre-trip all-nighter," so we'll see. And naturally, I'll at least try to say hello from the land of Five-O. I'll be pretty busy out there, however—and I know you're in good hands.
