Inappropriate? A Little.
Strictly speaking, it would be best if Franken didn't
contribute material to SNL in the middle of a campaign.
On the other hand, the biggest scandal about Franken as a politician is that he is getting so much money from my very own state, which makes him look like a financial capetbagger.
The biggest scandal about Franken as a comedian is that he is not even remotely funny.
The biggest scandal about trying to out-McCain McCain in a comedy sketch is that it's going to be difficult to be funnier than he is on his own. Johnny Mac and I remain at odds on a handful of issues—but he's a smart dude. Tough to parody him, unless you go for his temper, which hasn't even manifested itself much in the past several years—at least not publicly. Or you can just do ageist material, which is likely where Franken "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big, Fat Idiot" took it. (See the humor there? Limbaugh is big and fat. And he's an idiot. Funny, huh? And John McCain is an old crippled guy with a little bit of a short fuse sometimes. I swear: I'm killing myself, here.)

It is not surprising that Franken would find it impossible to resist the urge to help Saturday Night Live tarnish the Republican ticket. Unfortunately for him, the relatively mild rip on McCain aired in the same episode as the vile and inexcusable attack against Todd Palin involving incest and pedophelia. Al has enough problems associated with SNL (can anyone say "rape"?). Perhaps he would best serve his ambitions to gain election to the United States Senate by focusing on his own campaign.

Tina Fey at the Emmys "She even shrugged off her resemblance to Gov. Sarah Palin, whom she won raves for portraying on the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live."
"But then my kids saw her on TV and started saying, 'Mommy?'" she said.
She was more open about her thoughts on reprising the "SNL" role. As in, she'd prefer not to.
"I want to be done playing this lady Nov. 5," she said. "So if anybody can help me be done playing this lady Nov. 5, that would be good for me."

Wish granted, Tina. And you don' have to wait until Nov. 5th. Quit.
