So. Christian Heavy Metal.

Bad idea? Good idea? Antinomian idea?

Discuss.

1 All I can think of was the heavy metal album that Pat Boone did and that was all bad.

2 Are you starting a band? Do you need a tamborine player?

3 Not yet. I'll keep your resume on file. However, I'd like to point out, right here and now, that Jeff is making a very important point: tambourine players are seriously underutilized in heavy metal bands. It has to stop.

4 And we could always use more cowbell!

5 Most Contemporary Christian bands suffer from the notion that adding "Jesus" to the lyrics will turn rotten music into good music. You don't have to be an atheist to agree that this notion is simply false.

6 There's an awful lot of lousy music that only gets exposure because it's "christian". This includes a gob of rock-y and pop-y junk, and also those all too common tracks of a worship leader warbling to the accompaniment of a choir. Sorry. It's fantastic when you're part of it during a worship service, but it just doesn't carry through to a CD as great music. However. For great Christian rock, I do highly recommend one group--Third Day. Especially "Offerings-A Worship Album" Really first rate. I get goosebumps just thinking about it as I type this. Also Jennifer Knapp. Very real and sometimes edgy.
