Mark Steyn at the Churchill Dinner

If you live anywhere west of the Mississippi, please consider attending this event. I mean, we're talkin' Mark-freaking-Steyn, here. When in your life will you ever get another chance? Also, the Beverly Wilshire Hotel is a beautiful place; my husband won his first Emmy there.

Mark Steyn is one of the worldÂ’s premiere writers on politics and culture, whose witty and satirical style has won him fans across the globe. Mr. Steyn is author of the forthcoming America Alone: Our CountryÂ’s Future as a Lone Warrior (Regnery), and his previous books include Mark Steyn From Head To Toe: An Anatomical Anthology and The Face of the Tiger (Stockade). The Claremont Institute was founded in 1979 to restore the principles of the American Founding to their rightful, preeminent authority in our national life. The Institute publishes the quarterly Claremont Review of Books, and sponsors fellowships to study the American Founding. We also administer a variety of public-policy programs that apply our founding principles to the critical issues of our day. Our scholarship ranges from strategic to literary studies, from Plato and Aristotle to John Locke and Thomas Jefferson—in short, to all those subjects upon which free men must draw to preserve and perfect their liberty.

The reception begins at 6PM and dinner will commence at 7PM. Individual tickets are available at the price of $250.00 and can be purchased online at www.claremont.org.

(As a special bonus, you'll get to rub elbows with the high-powered bloggers at the Bear Flag League—including the 1-2 non-attorneys in the group, and at least one person not named "Jeff" or "Kevin.")

1 I'd love to go (on somebody else's dime) but it's too far south and too expensive.

2 Well for $1000 I've been invited to dinner with the President up in Phoenix. That's a little steep for my budget, considering it's for benefit of Jon Kyl's re-election. While he's a reliable enough conservative, he's not terribly inspiring when it comes to his position on the statist/libertarian scale. $250 plus a trip to California is a bit on the steep side too, even if to rub elbows with a certain blogger not named Jeff or Kevin.

3 We'll have to give you advance warning of our next SoCal event. And you need a group! There have to be enough libertarian-right bloggers in AZ and NM to form some sort of alliance and share info. Or you'll just have to keep visiting the SoCal/Rocky Mountain blogs. Hm.
