I Wrote a "Road Trip" Story.
It starts on the East Coast, and ends on the West Coast. It's long and boring. It was rejected twice before I figured out that I should be submitting pieces I actually
like to literary journals, so when the rejection slips come I can snap my fingers and condemn their shitty taste and inability to see my sheer fucking poetry-in-prose for what it is.
Turns out the way to write about a road trip is under stress and on the fly.
If today's the last day for a while, Harrell, you'd better make it good.
UPDATE: "You didn't tell me you were going to kill it!"
Silly me, thinking The Shape of Days would stay on the web, and simply not be updated. Oh, well. If you didn't read my link this morning, you're SOL. We can only hope you-know-who resurfaces someday, with more verbal crack.

Don't get me started on the literary journals. Your stuff is being screened by some idiot freshman. And the whole attitude is about 30 years behind the culture, very academic, which is why university writing programs can be poisonous.
Also, anything longer than 3000 words is a tough sell

Fortunately, mine tend to run 2500-ish.
Except for the stupid freaking idiot book.

Shape is gone:
"Hi.
The Shape of Days is on hiatus for retooling. It might come back. It might not. You just never know these days.
Meantime, amuse yourself by e-mailing me. I'll write back. If Â… you know Â… I feel like it."
*SNIFF*
The sad thing is I just found it.

Jeff is engaged in a cheap publicity stunt. He just wants us to write him whiny little notes about how he CAN'T give up his blog.
But I refuse. (Okay: what I mean is, I've already sent him the whiny little notes.)

First, Jeff will have to send me a whiny note begging me to send him a whiny note.

Last Few Days
. . . to catch
Shape of Days, before Harrell takes a breather to learn his new job.
He tells us to get our blog on while we still can. And, being from Texas, he thinks Virginia is mountainous; he should see the Sierra Nevadas. That's some topography for you there, Buddy.
Via con Dios, Jeff. I always knew you had guts.

SOS: Smart Left-of-Center Bloggers
I know a few, but they are so difficult to find that I'm thinking of creating a separate blogroll for them. I'm not interested in snarky remarks about how the only correct positions are center-right: I'm interested in where you see the most provocative, even seductive arguments from your left-leaning friends or adversaries. What makes you think?

I see them in the news media(97%), entertainment)TV and movies, 99%), major metropolitan daily newpapers(100%), periodicals(99%), college lectures(97%), books(91%), and plays and live entertainment(99+%). Must I look left too when I just want to sneak away and have a cigarette and visit a few friendly blogs and like minds? Besides, they always try something sneaky like adding right wing blogs to the 'banned sites" list on Windows XP.

So. Blogging Man.
Is anyone
going? I'm tempted, though CPAC may have used up all my time and emotional energy for overnight blog-conferences.
Still, it's close enough that I could do this one on a serious shoestring (though I stayed under-budget for the D.C. trip, mostly due to my "one meal a day" approach, and liberal use of protein bars).

Getting a copy of Hugh Hewitt's book is NOT an incentive for registering early. The guy got some important parts of weblogging history wrong, and they're still floating around the internets.

Now, now: the "l" word has a multitude of meanings. See "classical liberal," which is what I am. Also: liberalized carry laws.

Dr. Helen
. . . has a
thoughtful piece about the effects of child care. It's refreshing to read about that subject from a point of view other than the two standards (that is, "child care can save the world!" and "child care is destroying our kids!").

I Hate Myself for Lovin' You
Ace on Arianna, who's been writing about the "Shotgungate" non-story:
I'm pretty sure Michael Huffington is the one homosexual who wasn't born gay. But the poor sonofabitch just never had a chance, did he? What would you have done?
Me? Had I married Arianna Huffington? I think I'd be blasting my own friend in the face right now, if you know what I'm sayin'.
Read the whole thing, 'cause it's funnier 'n' a sonofabitch.

More on Coulter
Aw, come on, boys: let's not, um, rag on her for her looks. That's the kind of thing the lefties do.
Hackbarth has another mini-roundup, and remarks that the whole flap is "almost boring." Yeah. But if we don't distance ourselves from this woman we're no better than the lefties who defend Michael Moore's prevaricating—or those who don't closely examine the more, um, colorful arguments Pat Buchanan makes over on populist row.

Coulter isn't boring (that's the problem). What's "boring" is there's nothing new about the incident...yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can get something.

Ace on Why the VP Ain't No Killer
Dead men tell no tales, and Dick Cheney likes having colorful, bloody stories told about him. Usually these stories include the lines, "And then all I did was call 'shotgun' as we were heading back to the car, and Cheney says 'That's not how my Pappy taught me to play shotgun.'"

A woman, whine to her husband, never.
That would insult his honor, and make provoke a beating......
Darn, I haven't submitted to Islamic Law (never will). So the little lady will whine all day long...
Ah, bliss...all is normal in the world.

Joy,
If you want some interesting (albeit academic) fare, try searching for "OSINT" or "WBIL" on the web. If the Hub likes studying conflicts, I recommend "The Bear Went Over the Mountain", by Les Grau and Ali Jalili. It is a study of the Soviets in Afghanistan. It is available online from the Foreign Military Studies Office, Ft. Leavenworth, KS.
You could even find some stuff by yours truly, including "A Part, not Apart", covering the EZLN-ETA dialogue in southern Mexico and "Latin Gangs in the U.S." focusing on the MS-13 (with help from USBP Intelligence). (Also printed in Crime and Justice International).
All sorts of interesting things in the open source arena; you just have to look for them.
BTW; none of the above is classified.
Good luck and happy reading!

The internet has given a VOICE to the people who are ignored by the media. An example is the Feb. 3 edition of USA Today about the passing of Mrs. King and Rosa Parks. They say there is no leader to fill the vaccum but fail to include the Black leaders in the Bush Administration with Colin Powell, Condi Rice, a fellow who is the HUD Secretary, Justice Clarence Thomas, and other conservative blacks serving in the Justice Department. They represent a group of people who became successful based on hard work and brainpower. The internet, and Miss Attila is an example of free speech which would never be heard in the mainstream media. In the game of politics, the internet has become a place for expression of Republicans and conservatives who refuse to swallow the garbage pumped out of the liberal press. And in case you missed it, there will be over 4,000 conservative-minded/Republicans gathered in Washington DC starting on Feb. 8 with the National Federation of Black Republicans banquet, along with members of Congress and black Republican candidates for the Senate, House and Governor races in 2006. Getting out our message can be celebrated because of the internet. That is my opinion.
