If "snark" means "stupid attempt to make a victory look as bad as possible," or "pathetic example of viewing events through s***-colored glasses," then, yeah.

Relax. No matter how much yesterday's coverage made your blood boil, the MSM promises that tomorrow's will turn it to steam. They are still pretending that they are on 'our' side...a little bit.
Until the MSM really starts to piss out the fire completely, check this out http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=225004>1=7701
" John Cusack's motivation for his latest film grew out of something he did not see — flag-draped caskets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Pentagon policy bans media coverage of America's war dead as their remains are returned. The Bush administration has strongly enforced the ban, something Cusack describes as "one of the most shameful, disgraceful, cowardly political acts that I've seen in my lifetime."
How touching! I'm sure you just want to see our coffins so that you can mourn properly. I promise you, John, your coffin will be on full display when the time comes...

Abortion and Plan B
So far, things have stayed
remarkably civil over here, where a young woman named Sara is taking Darleen to task over her abortion post.
Usually when I discuss my experiences on so-called "feminist" websites I'm referred to as a "troll," labeled "anti-choice," and disregarded by the kids I'm attempting to warn that this is a "choice" you would do well to avoid.
It's apparently quite shocking that some of us really do think it should be "safe, legal, and rare."

Guess that means I hate not only myself but my 4 girls, too??

Attila,
I don't really care about abortion one way or another, currently in South Dakota on business from Seattle,(talk about polar opposites) and am amused about how worked up they are about it in this state.
The topic I would request you explore is rather abortion is left as a choice or not, the much bigger issue is the fact that your side is simply running out of doctors who will peform the procedure. Few if any med students are learning to perform the procedure, the average age of an abortion doc is over 50, it is a non insurance paid procedure with possible consequences to those who perform.
This is what is going to stop abortion much more than any legislation.
Regards,
Jason

How funny. Because the thing I resent as a middle-class chick from a large metropolitan area who went to college, is the relentless pressure to reflexively have an abortion without thinking about it. For some reason those who come from more conservative families seem even more prone to the "let's have an abortion, and that way we can pretend this never happened" problem.
The reason neither side trusts the other to counsel girls/women objectively is that they are right: counseling is almost always biased toward one side or the other.

Why are you surprised? in my limited experience,
pro-choice for the most part means
any choice you like, so long as it is an abortion.

They just had an election yesterday in South Dakota, the candidates that wanted to moderate this state's abortion stand, life of mother,incest, were overwhelmingly. One was an incumbent. Do you have any thoughts on my point about running of doctors to perform the procedure should it remain legal?
Posted by: Jason at June 08, 2006 11:10 AM (lhVve)

I have some real mixed feelings about the incest/rape exceptions, because I know some pro-life people who want abortion illegal but want there to be these exceptions. I have trouble with that point of view philosophically, because to me it suggests that they aren't as interested in preserving the life of the embryo/fetus as they are in punishing the pregnant woman by forcing her to carry it to term.
If you have the stance that this is a human life, and it should carry as much moral weight as any other human life, how do you justify exceptions for rape and incest? Thoughts?

That is exactly how the voters of South Dakota viewed it, 4 incumbents were defeated because they wanted the exception of rape, incest and life of the mother. This I feel is a harbinger of what you are going to find across the US. USA Today had a front page story showing over 35 states outlawing or severely limiting abortion when Roe is overturned. I still haven't heard your thoughts on the dearth of abortion doctor's.

Jason

Their self-censorship will gain them nothing. It will cost them, too.
After I found out that Google was dropping certain sites from its search gleanings, I replaced it with a different search engine in my bookmarks.
They no longer have my sympathy that MS will be pointing the IE "Search" button at MSN's search engine instead of theirs.
This would make sense even from a non-moralizing viewpoint. If I want to research a controversial viewpoint, I want both sides. Google no longer guarantees delivery.

Back in Black.
Wow. Three DDoS attacks over the weekend. Fortunately, our hero
Pixy fixed 'em with his Australian kung fu.
With guys like Ace in Munuvia, we're going to have problems. But the jihadis just can't compete, because 1) Westerners can get help from the wimmin in solving problems, and 2) Christian, Jewish, and normal Muslim men get laid more than Islamonutters. So they can concentrate better. Even setting aside our chick brain trust, we'd come out ahead.

A Word About Libel: Memo to Bob Hymers
RL Hymers has apparently expressed concern about "slanderous" discussions over the internet of his rather peculiar methodologies for running a church.
A few reminders are in order for my former pastor, Dr. Robert L. Hymers:
1) If it happens in writing, it's libel—not slander.
2) If it's true, it isn't libel. What I write about my experiences in your "churches" (read: cults) is true. I'll carry the scars with me for the rest of my life. Let it be.
Or apologize and renounce preying on the young.

Plenty to Blush About
. . . when Darleen and I look around and see what our pro-choice "allies" have to offer in the way of
critical reasoning.
Women in Islamic countries live under house arrest and are having their genitals removed, but we're oppressed in this country for not having over-the-counter access to Plan B. Super.

I'm glad you keep a level head while I lose mine occassionally. This really hit a hot button for me.
Dana couldn't have written a more unflattering article if she was a Moby from Operation Rescue.
I struggled, worked, cajoled, punished, rewarded and otherwise raised my girls to be responsible, ethical adult women...and to have Dana tell them not to worry as there is nothing that will happen to them that they can't blame on someone else.
In this area it is not at all about the politics..it's about the values.

Lets not forget EEOC. A woman wrote a letter to the editor for our local paper claiming women were discriminated against. Her example; that 10 men were running for a US senate seat and not one woman!
When our culture encourages failure by blaiming someone else, they usually succeed.

Yup. We are "a nation of victims." How sad. Especially considering that we are the richest nation in the world, with the most class fluidity--or close to it--and enjoy levels of medical care and access to information that we didn't have even 20 years ago.
Boo fucking hoo.

Yes. Still Celebrating.
Last week I made the annual First Hamburgers of Summer to start grilling season and celebrate our anniversary. Tonight the husband took me out to an amazing restaurant.
We're running late this year: May is our month. Years ago we started dating at the beginning of the month, and we got married some years later over Memorial Day weekend. We celebrate the marriage, and our respective survival thereof.
I have work to do this weekend, but I believe I will get up early tomorrow and take care of it before church—because right now I'm enjoying the afterglow of venison and foie gras.
Lucky. That's me. Very lucky.

I'd Forgotten
. . . how much fun it is to sit around in 90-degree weather with a pillow on one's lap to protect one's knees from a hot computer.
I could turn on the AC, sure. But I'm far too noble and virtuous to do that until we hit 100.
I swear: this summer I'm going to work on one of the balconies. The downstairs one, I think. It's cooler.

We hit 100 degrees today, so I went downstairs to hubby's turf to nap in the media room where it's cooler. We should move in there for the next few months.
Alternatively, we could sleep in a tent in our backyard.

Wow.
It's one of those times again: like the six-month period in which:
• we bought a house;
• three of our pine trees blew down in a windstorm;
• we went through a legal wrangle with our former landlady;
• I changed jobs at the Largish Publishing Company, jumping to an entirely new department featuring a different corporate culture;
• Attila the Hub won his first two Emmys;
• we got married.
I'm fastening my seat belt.

Attila Hub and I have both been juggling prospects like mad, and we each have the sense that something is about to "pop."
Meanwhile, I'm starting a class on crime-writing at the end of the month that will--I'm hoping--get me past the "finish line" on my mystery (hm; where did that metaphor come from?), and I just started my long-backburnered children's book.
We need a car, and have ourselves half-convinced that we'll win one at the church fundraiser this month.
And I'm confident that as soon as we're really busy--even busier than we are now--we'll start to get "shown" and find ourselves adoptive parents.
It's just in the air.
