The iron cross, though, I won't give up; it's been used too many other places for too many other things. I won't cede that one to the Fuhrer.

It's too bad the Cross of St. Andrew flag has seemingly expired in its final incarnation as the confederate battle emblem. I wish there were a way to preserve it as something innocent such as a symbol of southern regional pride, but it's probably too late.

Well, the Southern Flag itself also has several meanings--for some, it's just a states' rights thing, or a "rebel spirit."
I try to leave that one between Southerners (of various races, but two of 'em in particular), and the bikers (who are, of course, 99.9% whites, and .01% very badass blacks). I don't have a dog in that fight--but what I won't do is assume that anyone who displays the Southern flag means it in the way that I would have taken it when I was a child in the 1960s.
