Ian Schwarz

. . . has video of Christopher Hitchens' speech at the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C., where a peaceful demonstration was held in support of those who uphold free speech. (Note to Angelenos: I'd love to see these held on Fridays in our fair town—possibly in front of the Federal Building near UCLA, where we do all our most fashionable protests.)

Hitchens remarked that if time permitted, they should march to the Iraqi Embassy, to support the government there and condemn the saboteurs who bombed the Shia Shrine. It's a lovely thought.

My favorite pic from Schwarz' post, featuring a sign made out of Legos:

Insty's main roundup is here, and he runs this pic, among others:

And elsewhere Glenn runs an update, which documents the presence of Danishes among the supporters of Danes:

1 Funny how the Dems love free speech when it is used to clobber President Bush or the Republicans. I wonder how the Dems felt when the Iraq protestors died near the recent bombing site or the TV reporter and her crew murdered? Should the US Troops just stand there and watch? These Dems and their liberal buddies offer our nation nothing and that is a huge reason why Kerry lost in 2008. The WIMP FACTOR dragged him down as much as his long boring speeches. Free speech is great, but the reporters are not fighting to protect it. Our US military is fighting and dying so that the anti-Bush people can protest while the HATE-US group thrives in Europe and in the Middle East. Did anyone think about the Alabama Churches being burned down? Is that motivated by the same hate as the Sunni-Shite religious battle? Did anyone consider that the Golden Dome Shite Mosque is like bombing the Vatican? No reporter has the balls to say it, but it is true. Now that is FREE SPEECH and it is the truth in the real world.

2 More like bombing St. Peter's. But the Dome has been rebuilt before, and it will be rebult now. It's the ground that is sacred, and it remains so.

3 My response to "we are all Danes Now!!!" The implication is, "We are all terrorists now?" That includes Hindus, Sikhs,Budhists, Latinos, chinese Anyone who is black, brown or any race that has muslims. It is those people who will be discriminated. Another quote I heard on the radio, Its not that all muslims are terrorists, its that "all terrorists are muslims" very interesting way to divide up the world. Next question will be how can you tell if someone is a muslim, by skin color, by name? by a turban or a beard? What I find interesting is that all those who argued for the US to stay in Iraq to prevent civil war, want the US to stay on the sidelines and let the Iraqis have a civil war. The most funny line heard on fox, If Bush loses the port deal, the terrorist win! It should have been rephrased, if anyone oppose the administration, they are with the terrorists.

4 Don't be silly: not all terrorists are Muslim. Some are Irish-Catholic.

5 Oh, right: and some are Protestant. Forgot about those guys. But it does seem to be going out of style for Christians to go around killing each other--and unbelievers--over matters of faith.

6 If only Muslims would catch the trend. Y'know?
