Rumor Has It . . .

that we were actually at war with our good friends the Germans in the mid-20th Century. Anyone know for sure?

But if that were the case, we couldn't be allies with them now. Very confusing.

1 Yeah, we attacked them for no reason and caused millions of deaths in Europe. And we still occupy them! It's appalling! I first learned about it in Nena's "99 Luftballoons (99 Red Balloons)"

2 I think we did it to steal their oil. Or Porches.

3 Porsches? Their cheese and women. That Rick Steves character from "Travels in Europe" (PBS) had an episode where he visited the British War Museum in London when a group of schoolgirls(age 11 or 12) were present. Among the museum exhibits is a giant B&W aerial view of London showing the damage from German bombing runs. At one point he talks with the students and ask them about the picture. They say "The Americans bombed London." He laughs and says "Don't you mean the Germans?" And they say "Oh no. It was the Americans bombing London. Our teacher told us." Steves just laughs and says "OK then." Why bother to tell someone what you know? No wonder "they" hate America.

4 Sounds like we are outsourcing our liberal teachers to Britain.

5 As a matter of fact it is rumored that we fought them twice in the 20th century.
