Talk About Your "Viral" Marketing; Watch Out, Boyz
The Condistas are definitely on the march.
Crystal Deuker—whose last name got inexplicably garbled by the local press—got lead-story coverage as she spoke to a political women's group in Iowa, attempting to spread the message that it's time to draft Condi.
This is right on the heels of the Quad City Times' report that in poll of 400 Republican Iowas voters, Condi leads the pack by a considerable margin:
Rice received the backing of 30.3 percent. U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona was second in the survey with 16 percent, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani received support from 15.3 percent. Roughly 20 percent were undecided.
Just to be fair to the guys, a second set of questions was asked that excluded Condi's name. Naturally, WaPo ran a story on that second poll, entirely ignoring the Rice lead in the main poll.
What is the Washington establishment afraid of?
Meanwhile, the latest poll in Florida puts Rice neck-and-neck with Mayor Giuliani (21% and 23% respectively), with Constitution-shredder McCain a distant third at 11%.
DISCLOSURE: Team Condi bought an ad from me (see it?—upper left). I got $45 for it, and I'll be spending several multiples of that going out to cover their activities in Scottsdale this Labor Day weekend (along with blogging the entire NFRA convention). Should I ever be in danger of breaking even due to my having contacts within (or sympathy for) a political group, I'll be sure to let you know. (This policy is very unlike that of your average consumer magazine.)
In the meantime, everyone in Team Condi appears to be spending their own money for gasoline, meals, lodging—just about everything in almost all cases. If you think Condi is the best person to carry on—and possibly fine-tune—G.W.'s efforts in the War on Terror, think about whether you have time or money to give. If you do, click the ad and get involved. Thanks. They are about to roll out their big media campaign, so right now would be a great time to slide them some filthy lucre.

Iowa Likes Condi--that is the news from my trip to Des Moines, Iowa (August 22 /23) where I had been invited earlier to speak at a Republicans Women's group. Quad City News told the complete story about the Victory group's poll, unlike the Washington Post. Yes, Miss Attilla, you have exposed the truth about the Wash. Post denying their readers the real news that Condi is admired and respected as leader in Iowa where 30% of the polled Republicans support her in their preference for 2008. This is without her flying in for a "rubber chicken dinner". Could it be that americansforrice.com planted in the minds of Iowa people the seeds of "Condi for President" in those early ads from Feb. to March for 6 weeks on WHO radio? With her job approval at 60%, and Forbes magazine (August 15) listing Condi as "the most powerful woman in the world", she has high name recognition as she stands on the world stage as the United States top diplomat. Thank you for helping us get the word out to your audience.

Des Moines was another "adventure with Condi" from August 22 to 23. After speaking with a dynamic group of Republican women, they shared their comments about her as a candidate. Information booklets were given to them as they ponder which person will win their support for 2008.
WHO TV/NBC saw the newsworthiness of my visit. They did a feature story and our website, americansforrice.com, will post it as soon as the video disc arrives. From the WHO tv website:

My commitment to Condi has to do with 1) she's the person best-qualified to lead this country after the end of G.W.'s second term, and 2) she is one of only a handful of individuals in this country who can beat Hillary Rodham Clinton--who is a smart woman, getting advice from one of the most brilliant (albeit sleazy) politicians of our time.
This is not a time to be fucking around: we really do need the best person in this job. That's Condi.

I think it is fine to elect Condi as president instead of wasting her time seeking the Senate or Governor's race in California. Her experience as Secretary of State is grooming her for higher office in 2008; like an "heir apparent" to the Bush Administration. She is the "de facto" Vice President right now when it comes to foreign policy. If anything happened to Cheney, who else but Condi would become VP? That would clear the field since most VP's win nomination to follow the president and carry on the plans or the agenda for another 4 years.

You're exactly right, Crystal: why should she invest another 5-10 years moving out here to CA to be governor in order to do a job that she's perfectly suited to now?
I might feel differently if we weren't at war, or facing Hillary as the Dem candidate. But we are, and we are.
Foreign policy was always acknowledged to be Clinton's weakness, and that fact got us where we are now. We need a chick who knows the other heads of state, speaks several of the major languages in the world, and has studied other nations all her life.
