Why Roberts Can't Be Borked

Nice article in the Boston Globe about how to appoint conservatives who don't "trip the extremist trip-wire," and why Roberts will survive the confirmation process.

It would seem that for super-ambitious judges, the rule is, "don't publish [much]—or perish."

1 Would you be upset if R v Wade was overturned? Would u support turning the issue over to state voters?

2 It should always have been a state issue; the idea that the Constitution guarantees the right to an abortion is absurd. Our policies here are far more liberal than those in Europe, where in most countries the girl has to at least sign some sort of cautionary piece of paper. In Ireland, it's entirely illegal, and girls have to go to Britain to get them. I still don't happen to think Roe will be overturned in the next ten years, but we'll see. If states decide this issue we'll be a lot closer to what the framers of the Constitution had in mind. And a lot of girls will think twice, and perhaps have their babies adopted instead of just offing them. It's all good.
